Noctilucent Cloud Time Lapse - 1st July 2011


Noctilucent cloud dances tantalisingly along the northern horizon as dawn breaks.


A little later a patch of NLC showed up further to the south and east. Look out for the plane contrail passing through in the timelapse below. It is sobering to think that the NLCs are about eight times higher up.


A still from the sequence shows the Pleiades rising on the left. Also note the direction of the plane travel compared to the line of the contrail, it must have been a stiff crosswind at that altitude.
