Sunset over Silbury Hill

Even a low sun can be dangerously bright !   Always use proper filters and protect your eyes.

As the sun nears the horizon it is already noticeably flattened by refraction. The 40 metre high conical 'hill' in the middle distance is the largest neolithic mound in Europe.

As the sun gets lower the distortion changes noticeably. Filters had to be used because even this low on a hazy afternoon the sun was still too bright to view directly.
