Noctilucent Cloud - 8th July 2009

On this occasion the clouds showed more than just a steady drift. The pair of images below, taken almost 7 minutes apart and with the same exposure, shows the changing structure of the cloud. The sky has brightened noticeably with the sun rising 0.6 degrees between the images, to 11.2 degrees below the horizon.

Another series over 6 minutes with a constant exposure but a much wider view. The sun was 10.3 degrees below the horizon at the end of this series and the sky was much brighter.

By the time the sun was 9.4 degrees below the horizon the structure was harder to make out in the growing twilight.
