Sunlight reflecting of the underside of falling ice crystals can give a weak column of light above the sun.
The strength will depends on how well aligned the crystals are, usually there is enough variation that no pillar is visible.
Even a low sun can be dangerously bright ! Shield the sun and protect your eyes from the glare.
