Aureole round the Sun

Aureole round the sun reflected in a pond

The aureole round the sun, formed by thin cloud, seen reflected in the surface of a pond. This reduced the brightness to a safe level. Much of the mottling is due to the cloud structure but some is due to rippling of the water.

Aureole round the sun wih bluish core

Another view of the aureole showing the bluish core and part of the brown outer ring. Also viewed by reflection in the pond, this time the water was perfectly calm.

Never look directly at the sun !   Shield the sun and use proper eye protection against the glare.
