This could easily be mistaken for interference in a thin film of oil on the water. It is an interference effect but it is taking place in thin cloud near the sun. |

The metallic colours in this display were very striking, but great care was needed because it was close to the sun. |
The outer fragment of corona at the lower edge of the cloud gives way to general iridescence.
