Fogbows and Topography

Complete fogbow

Looking down a gentle slope helps show more of the arc below the horizon. The top is weaker because the fog is not very deep so there is less fog along that line of sight.

Fogbow near the crest of a ridge

Looking up to the crest of a ridge shows the top of the arc well. The fog was just deep enough to show the arc but not so deep that it cut out the sunshine.

Partial fogbow in a valley

Only the side of the fogbow is visible in this shallow layer of fog in the valley. A faint glory is also visible round my shadow on the left.
