Bright Sundogs

Looking rather like a small patch of rainbow, but on a frosty morning, this lone sundog stands out against the blue sky. The sun is off to the left at the same altitude as the sundog.

Although they are small sundogs can be very colourful, as shown in this close up of the on the left.


Small patches of cirrus moving through produced some very bright sundogs.


Different patches obviously had different crystal structures and distributions, judging by the strengths of the sundogs produced. Here the sundog highlights the delicate wisps of cirrus.
